The Edgar Allen Poe Museum, the first museum in Virginia devoted to the literary arts, opened its doors 97 years ago. It soon established itself as the world’s finest collection of Edgar Allen Poe editions and artifacts. The museum’s story is almost as colorful as any of his tales. The people who made the museum possible include the director of a mental hospital, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, and one of the scientists who worked on the Manhattan Project. This class will retrace the steps of the Poe Museum’s history from 1922 to today.
