Newport News Pioneers in Bygone Days Part I

From English sea dogs to entertainers, Newport News has had its share of famous residents and visitors. Captain Christopher Newport visited these fair shores in 1607 leaving behind his name for the City.  The famed George Armstrong Custer was so excited about visiting our city that he went aloft in a balloon during the Civil War. American actress and singer Pearl Bailey was a native of Newport News and entertained audiences for over sixty years.  Join J.
