Heatherwood’s own Ardo Meyer, retired Geophysicist, presents monthly programs on his extensive travels and interesting adventures. In July, Ardo’s, program will be “Early Childhood Memories”. Ardo will speak about his early life on a farm in Nebraska, and about growing up during the depression and WWII. He tells us about the dust bowl, prairie fire, droughts, floods, hailstones, grasshopper plagues and tornadoes. Ardo’s August program will be about attending a “One-Room Country Schoolhouse”, with one teacher teaching eight grades every year! The teacher was not only responsible for the safety and education of the students, but also the maintenance ad janitor’s duties! When Ardo was just four years old he could read, write, and do arithmetic, and he started the 1st grade! In September, learn about his dad upgrading the whole farm by building a basement, installing running water, a 32-volt electric plant, and 2.5 bathrooms! At the same time, he converted the farm from a beef farm into a poultry farm. Ardo describes the role he played by being the “go-fer” when he was 7 years old.
