Ardo Speaks

  • Heatherwood Community 9642 Burke Lake Road Burke, VA, 22015 United States (map)

Heatherwood’s own Ardo Meyer, retired Geophysicist, presents monthly programs on his extensive travels and interesting adventures. In April, Ardo’s program will be a continuation on his experience during the Traverse from McMurdo to the South Pole; focusing on the nine other Traverse members, who they were, what their duties were and what happened to them after they completed their mission. In May, his program is titled “Cemeteries & Funerals.” Hear about the beauty, serenity and awe-inspiring simplicity of military cemeteries worldwide. Learn about other nation’s memorials that are equivalent to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Hear about how Ardo was “sorry of” the official “Eulogy Giver” for the Meyer family, and the heartbreaking story surrounding his wife’s funeral; and how his planned eulogy became part of one of his “Ardo Speaks” programs. During June’s program, “Early Childhood Memories,” Ardo will speak about his life on a farm in Nebraska. He will talk about growing up during The Depression, and WWII, and about The Dust bowl, prairie fires, droughts, floods, hailstorms, grasshopper plagues and tornados.
