Claude Monet: Architect of the Impressionist Movement

  • Ashleigh at Lansdowne 44124 Woodridge Parkway Leesburg, VA, 20176 United States (map)

In this class, we will explore the work of French artist Claude Monet, whose vision of creating spontaneous, light-filled paintings transformed the art world. Striving to paint the essence of what he saw in nature rather than attempting a photographic rendition, Monet’s art was the key to the development of modern art. The class will begin with a lecture highlighting both Monet’s early, more realistic representations and his turn toward outdoor painting and Impressionism. As a group, we will produce a copy of the Monet painting Soleil Levant, replicating his unique vision of the landscape. Upon completion of our paintings, we will participate in a critique of our work.
