In this class, we will explore the work of Dutch post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh, whose relatively short career had a long-lasting influence on the art world. The class will begin with a lecture highlighting van Gogh’s most famous paintings and analyzing how his composition and use of color and brushwork continue to evoke strong emotions more than two centuries following his death. As a group, we will produce a copy of a van Gogh painting, replicating his unique palette, composition, and intense/heavy coloration and use of pigment. Upon completion of our paintings, we will participate in q critique of our paintings.
