Musical Moments: 1950s and Beyond - The Purrs of Prosperity

  • Ashleigh at Lansdowne (map)

Following the Great Depression and World War II, America entered into a period of not only unprecedented prosperity but also social upheaval. “Rock and Roll” music was creating common ground between Caucasians and African-Americans, thus supporting a burgeoning civil rights movement. Television shows like American Bandstand were setting the cultural tone. The 1950s would produce musical artists and styles which would permanently alter the course of music throughout the world.
