In this 90-minute class, we will explore the work of one of the most well-known female American artists of the 20th century. An eclectic and prolific artist who painted up until just few weeks before her death at age 98, O’Keeffe used vivid hues and natural forms focusing on the details of her subjects. The class will begin with a 20-minute PowerPoint lecture contrasting O’Keeffe’s New York cityscapes with her later paintings, largely of the New Mexico landscapes and the delicate internal parts of oversized flowers. A 50-minute practicum will follow the lecture. As a group, we will produce a copy of an O’Keeffe painting, replicating her fascination with flowers. Upon completion of our paintings, we will participate in a 20-minute critique of our work.
