In this 90-minute class, we will explore the work of French artist Claude Monet, whose vision of creating spontaneous, light-filled paintings transformed the art world. Striving to paint the essence of what he saw in nature rather than attempting a photographic rendition, Monet’s art was the key to the development of modern art. The class will begin with a 20-minute PowerPoint lecture highlighting both Monet’s early, more realistic representations and his turn toward outdoor painting and impressionism. a 50-minute practicum will follow the lecture. As a group, we will produce a copy of the Monet painting, Soleil Levant, replicating his unique rising of the landscape. Upon completion of our paintings, we will participate in a 20-minute critique of our work.
